Probation officers acting as victim contact officers are especially trained for the sensitive and confidential nature of the work. They organise contact with the victims of crime, writing to them and offering a home visit.
Located in probation teams all over the county victim contact officers work very closely with the probation officer supervising the offender concerned. With the victim’s agreement they share areas of concern, seek to resolve any anxieties and submit a report which forms part of the parole dossier or release plans.
There are close links with other probation areas, the police and the victim support scheme.
This work is an important contribution to community safety and issues of risk to the public, as well as providing support to the victims who have frequently undergone horrific experiences.
