Probation staff are involved in contact with convicted prisoners when they are sentenced and continuing through their prison sentence. They work alongside prison officers by:
- Working with prisoners who may pose a risk to others
- Providing programmes of work to help prisoners change their behaviour and attitudes
- Writing reports on life sentence prisoners and working with them to address their
offending behaviour
- Providing assessments to prison governors regarding home detention curfews and
resettlement on temporary licence.
After release
Probation staff in the Resettlement team work with offenders both inside prison and out in the community to prepare them to live in that community without re-offending.
Probation staff supervise all prisoners released into the community on licence.
The aims of Resettlement work are:
- Public protection
- Challenging offending behaviour
- Reducing re-offending
- Keeping victims or their families informed
