Article Title:Community Payback comes to the Meadows

Offenders are working on the third of five city areas highlighted by local people as in need of some care and attention. Various parts of the Meadows will be visibly improved as a result of the ‘Justice Seen Justice Done’ campaign’s public vote, which asked Nottingham’s residents to decide the priority order in which various neglected areas of the city should receive attention.

Supervised by Nottinghamshire Probation Area offenders undertaking Community Payback will help breathe new life into the area by:

    • Painting fences around the Queens Walk Community Centre,
    • Repairing and painting railings around Queens Walk Recreation Ground
    • Cutting back overgrown hedges in the Pitcairn Close area

Community Payback in action

The Community Payback work has been made highly visible to local people with leaflets explaining the scheme delivered to homes in the Meadows and awareness-raising posters displayed in shops at the Bridgeway shopping centre and other public areas.

A total of 535 Nottingham residents voted for which Community Payback projects they wanted to see offenders carry out first from a list of five. The three week vote was held during April through the directgov website as part of the "Justice Seen, Justice Done" campaign to raise awareness of Community Payback as a tough punishment for criminals.

It’s not just the City that can benefit from this scheme – why not contact Nottinghamshire Probation Area’s Community Payback team to find out about the type of work that has been done in the City and County; or put forward a suggestion for your area?
