The summer holidays are here, and the weather might not be brilliant, but the Week of Action Programme continues, as ‘Respect for Clifton 2009’ kicks off on Monday, 17th August 2009.
A packed programme has been put together for this week, and includes an event as part of the Parklife 09 campaign, which takes place on Tuesday, the 18th August on Clifton Playing Fields. The event, is part of Nottingham City Council’s summer programme, will give children and young people the chance to get involved in fun and healthy activities, as well as a showcase for services in Clifton.
Other highlights of the week include:
- Offenders working on the Community Payback programme will be clearing and improving allotments in Wilford.
- Community reassurance with increased patrols around Clifton’s shopping areas.
- Environmental improvement with a waste collection service operating on the Barton Green estate, street furniture improvement on Holbrook Court and work around the Glapton Wood area.
- Health Checks at an information event at the Clifton Cornerstone.
- A ‘grot spot’ at a set of council-owned properties in Greencroft will be tidied up.
There will also be action around crime and criminals, including alcohol test purchases, road and vehicle checks, speed enforcement, inconsiderate parking, and dog fouling.
This will be the 28th Week of Action to take place in the City, and the ongoing success of the Weeks of Action programme is testament to the genuine collaboration between partners, agencies and most importantly the local community in fulfilling the pledge to make ‘neighbourhoods cleaner, greener, safer and healthier for everyone’.
The planning process for Respect for Clifton 2009 has involved all the key agencies who work in the area, local businesses and local residents. The plans have been generated through an in-depth analysis of needs, and activities will take place during the day and night.
As with all Weeks of Action, the organisations involved have set challenging targets to reach over the course of the week. The results of the Week of Action will be available on request.
Allan Breeton, Coordinator, Neighbourhood Crime & Justice, Crime & Drugs Partnership, said:
"The Weeks of Action continue to be a great success, and all agencies involved in Clifton and Wilford have pulled out all the stops to put together a list of events for the week, which will benefit the whole community.
The important thing is that the community will see action taking place on issues that they have raised as concerns. It is right that the community see agencies taking action, after all it is them that pay for them."
