Integrated Domestic Abuse Programme (IDAP)

The Integrated Domestic Abuse Programme (IDAP) began in Nottinghamshire in April 2006 with support from the local Criminal Justice Board.  Protection of the victim is a paramount aim of the programme.  It encompasses;
  • behaviour-challenging group work for male perpetrators of domestic abuse
  • support for their partners and children
  • strong information-sharing links with police and
  • effective working relationships with relevant statutory and community organisations.
Candidates for the programme are targeted effectively, preventing the build up of a waiting list, and we work hard to ensure Courts have confidence in sentencing offenders to IDAP.

Women's Safety Workers

Women's Safety Workers enable the victim of domestic abuse the opportunity to;
  • receive help & support
  • information about their abuser and
  • for the first time the chance to help shape the offender's rehabilitation
An individual offender and a victim of domestic abuse describe the positive impact the IDAP programme and its associated elements have made in their lives;

John
  • years of abusive and violent behaviour culminated in him pointing the barrel of a loaded air rifle at his partner's terrified face
  • he was arrested
  • as part of his sentence the Court ordered him to complete the IDAP programme
  • after completing the course John said "IDAP has totally changed my way of life."
  • his partner agreed "now he is caring and calm it is him that stays calm and walks away"
Louise
  • her partner became violent and abusive, beating her and threatening her with a meat clever.
  • he was arrested and subsequently sent to jail by the Court
  • on his release and with the support or her safety worker Louise now states "I don't know what I would have done without my women's safety worker.  Now I've got a stable home and he hasn't been anywhere near me. I know everything that's going on now and it makes me feel safe."
