Equality Impact Assessments
What is an Equality Impact Assessment (EIA)?
An EIA is a thorough and systematic analysis of a proposed, existing policy or practice to determine what effect or likely effect it will have on any particular diversity group. Policies and services do not affect everyone in the same way.
Why undertake EIA?

to fulfill legal requirements of the Race relations Amendment Act (2000), Disability Discrimination Act (2005) and the Equality Act (2006)

it is good practice to analyse what we do

identify indirect or direct discrimination and where we are excluding different groups from any of our services

assist in considering alternative policies and measures

provide a better understanding of the needs of the diverse communities we serve

mainstream equality and diversity

target resources effectively

improve performance and consult with and involve different people

increasing the skills and effectiveness in terms of planning and developing of business and service planning
Nottinghamshire Probation Area held a consultation day in September 2006, which brought members of Nottinghamshire’s diverse communities together with Nottinghamshire Probation Area staff and Board members. The aim of this event was to develop comunity engagement in the Area’s Race Equality Scheme, Disability & Diversity scheme and in the process of conducting equality impact assessments of policies and functions.
