Equality and Diversity

We believe that our staff, service users and members of the communities we serve have the right to be treated with dignity and respect.  This underpins all of the work we do.

We strive to make the Nottinghamshire Probation Area an organisation which reflects the diverse range of cultures and background of the communities we serve.

Work has begun recently to improve our ability to Impact Assess our work in terms on race, disability and all forms of discrimination and equality.  We are committed to involving local groups and external representatives in assessing and enhancing our practice to meet the needs of a diverse community and will be setting up a number of community initiatives
in order to achieve this.

  • We supervise around 6000 adult offenders in the community
  • Around 12% of offenders are from minority groups, 88% are white
  • 14% of offenders are women; 86% are men
  • Representation of minority groups and women in court reports, sentences and our work with offenders on supervision, are monitored and any unjustifiable differences are followed up with improvement plans.
