Employment, Training and Education
It’s a fact that employment, training and education are key factors in breaking the cycle of reoffending. Nottinghamshire Probation Area’s Access Team work with offenders to:
- Identify any barriers to employment, training or education - common problems are qualifications and training, life and social skills
- Work with offenders to improve employability - by helping with job search and disclosure techniques, confidence and self-esteem
- Enable offenders to find and sustain employment - this may involve helping to find accommodation, maximising available benefits, or providing advice on maintaining a healthy lifestyle
In 2006/7, the Access Team will aim to place 344 offenders in employment, with 275 remaining for four weeks.
The work and achievements of Nottinghamshire’s Access Team were honoured at the National Justice Awards ceremony in November 2006, where the team were successful in gaining second place in the category ’Outstanding Work with Offenders’.
